Marc Lee

Marc Lee has been part of the entertainment world since he was a teenager, growing up around a community radio station his parents helped found. Over the years he has helped build some of Durham's most beloved cultural gatherings, working on the Bull Durham Blues Festival, Eno Festival, Centerfest, the Black Diaspora Film Festival, and Durham's MLK Parade, and serving on planning committees for WNCU and the early Art of Cool Festival. For close to a decade he hosted Road to the Apollo, a talent showcase that started right here at Hayti before touring venues across North Carolina. His radio career includes a decade-long blues show on WNCU and a decade on WCOM, running until the early days of the pandemic. Along the way he has worked alongside artists and performers such as Bo Diddley, Isaac Hayes, Wilson Pickett, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Roberta Flack, Renee Fleming, Ruby Dee, Dick Gregory, and the African American Dance Ensemble, among many others.


Today, Marc serves as Event Advisor and Staff Historian for Hayti Heritage Center and is the founder of Lee Entertainment, an event planning and consulting company. He also hosts The Online Dinner Party with PODTV, where he has spent the last six years producing shows from around the world. Marc brings decades of memory, relationships, and hands on experience to Hayti, carrying forward the same spirit of gathering that has always defined this place.
