“The Wanderlust of Sed Miles” is a stunning photography exhibit illustrating Sed’s year long, independent travel project spanning 15 countries on three continents. Using only one DSLR camera with two fixed lenses, he is creating art at the intersections of cultural aesthetics among diverse global communities.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Authentic cultural aesthetics defines the guiding framework behind the work of emerging artist, Sed Miles. Focusing on global and humanistic criterion, Sed is quickly developing a collection of photographic art that wanders between genres. Sed Miles is self-taught in 35mm film and digital photography as well as black and white darkroom techniques. His last exhibit, “Like This” was the artist’s statement on narcissism versus ritual in social media.

Sed consciously avoids modern digital photography clichés in an earnest search for authentic storytelling and the compelling re-creation of a natural world that he describes as “seriously beautiful”. He initiates his view of the world with a formal visual vocabulary, making great use of double-voiced rhetoric, the signifying style of cultural critique mastered by his personal art icon, Roy DeCarava.

His growing passion for documentary photography produced a comprehensive project called “The Wanderlust Files”, an independent, year long photographic expedition through 15 countries and 30 cities. His resulting work emphasizes a spiritual freedom within documentary, fine art and portrait photography, using the essential components of light, subject and framing to make each image a creative expression of the quintessential humanness of his subjects and himself.

A longtime community educator and activist, Sed instructs art, photography and media literacy classes around the world.
