FREE! – Gaspard Louis/Creative Movement Dance Class

Gaspard Louis will teach a creative movement class for students 12-18 years old involving the techniques of contact improvisation and partnering. This class will also focus on balance and counter-balance technique that will enable students to be creative and to develop movement vocabularies that will help them acquire a better understanding and appreciation for the art of choreography. Students should have at least one year of dance experience.

About Gaspard Louis
Gaspard Louis was a member of Pilobolus Dance Theater from 1996 to 2001. He has performed worldwide and collaborated on the choreography for nine major dance works with the company. He continues to do special projects with Pilobolus, the most recent being a commercial for Hyndai. He has also danced for Shirley Mordine and Company in Chicago and AllNations Dance Company in New York. Gaspard has choreographed for the Kentucky University Dance Ensemble and collaborated on four works for Freespace Dance Company in New Jersey. He has been a guest artist for the New York Renaissance Dance Festival and choreographed for and performed in a Caribbean music video. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Montclair State University and continued his studies on scholarship with Gus Giordano in Chicago and Nikolais/Louis Dance Lab in New York. Gaspard is currently directing ADF’s community creative movement program and co-teaching Haitian Creole at Duke University.

Heritage Rhythms Dance Class

danceHeritage Rhythms Dance Class will resume this Fall, Septmber 21-December 14th from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Hayti Heritage Center. This class is taught by seasoned dance professionals Toni Hall and Ivy Burch.

Prepare to travel the African Diaspora in this energetic and culturally rich dance exploration. Let the rhythms of the drums and movements of the Motherland uplift your soul and jump-start your body. The 90-minute class incorporates deep breathing, conditioning, and cardio intensive movements from various dance styles. Men and women of all levels are welcome. Childcare not provided. Space is limited. All are welcome to join us at Hayti! $5 per class. Guest instructors and master classes are programmed throughout the year for participants

Creative Movement Dance Class

Calling all DANCERS! CREATIVE MOVEMENT CLASS
Each Monday from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM Ages: 15 and up!

Purpose of my class is to teach creative movement involving the techniques of contact improvisation and partnering. He most recently appeared in a Hundai commercial with Pilobolus and has appeared in National Geographic, Marie Claire, and O Magazine and on Regis & Kathy, and Good Day New York with the company.

Gaspard received his bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from Montclair State University. He was a scholarship recipient with Gus Giordano in Chicago and Nikolais/Louis Dance Lab in New York. Gaspard has danced with Shirley Mordine & Company in Chicago and AllNations dance company in New York. He has also appeared in the New York Renaissance Dance Festival and choreographed and danced in the Caribbean music video as well being a guest artist choreographer for the Kentucky University Dance Ensemble.

He’s currently on board with ADF, teaching and helping with their community outreach dance program as well as teaching a Haitian Creole course at Duke University.

Sato’s Dance Academy

sa-to_logo.jpgSa-To’s Dance Academy was founded by Toni K. Hall and Sadiyah Shakur-Saleem in 2005. The Academy strives to enhance our youth’s ability to explore our unique culture through the world of dance, music and movement. The classes include rhythmic songs and games to introduce the connection of music and dance to ages 3 through 5; beginning dance movements, dance terminology, and choreography for ages 6 through 10; dance exploration continues with intermediate level dance movements and choreography for ages 10 through 18. All levels of dance experience is welcomed at SA-TO’S DANCE ACADEMY a place where “Dance instruction is more than movement and happy feet bring Success.”
