The Bull City Blues Continues

In celebration of the 20 th annual Bull Durham Blues Festival, the St. Joseph’s Historic Foundation, Inc. will exhibit it’s historical photographic story of the blues legacy in Durham called THE BULL CITY BLUES CONTINUES… August 3 – September 30, 2007 in the Lyda Moore Merrick Gallery at the Hayti Heritage Center. The initial exhibition was curated by Melody Little in 1998 titled “A Ten-Year Retrospectiveâ€? to celebrate the anniversary of the 10 th festival and features black and white photographs taken by a number of professional photographers from North Carolina. Photographers include: Lorrain Tipaldi, Michael Beck, Jerry Savage, Jenny Warburg, Jean Christian Rostagni, Paul Liggitt and original paintings by Bruce Couch. The Foundation transformed the exhibition into a traveling show which has been on display at various cultural centers throughout the country including the Afro American Cultural Center, Charlotte, NC, the YMI Cultural Center, Asheville NC and the Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Complex, Columbus, Ohio.

To celebrate the 20 th year of the Bull Durham Blues Festival curator Melody Little has added color and black/white photographs to this exciting collection. Photographers included in the selection are David Webb, Durham, NC, Jerry Novick, Charlotte, NC, Damien Prout, Durham, NC, and Mike Collins, Durham, NC. Many of the photos capture the spirit, personality and ethos of the music and performers who give the festival its vitality, as well as the individuals and electrifying atmosphere present at each year’s festival. An opening “Blues Friday� meet the artists reception will be held on Friday, August 3 for 6pm – 8pm with live blues music and light refreshments. The public is invited to attend.
